We attended a call in The Gherkin last week, and I can safely say it's the poshest place I've ever been in. I even offered to put on a tie to the bloke that showed us in, although I'm not sure how professional that would look with a London Ambulance Service uniform! And we got offered posh biscuits. It makes a nice change to get a call somewhere where you feel obliged to wipe your feet on the way in, as opposed to on the way out (it has been known!)
My only claim to fame this week was that we picked up a bloke who used to be on The Apprentice, one of his relatives was poorly and he came along for some moral support. None of us actually recognised him (I know I certainly didn't) but he did make a point of artfully slipping into conversation who he was, although thankfully there was none of the "Don't you know who I am?" shenanigans that there could've been.
I've only got two more shifts to go before Easter when I leave, I've really enjoyed this placement and I don't want to go back to uni! hxx

Dum dum dum dumdum dadadadum!

This is where I'm working for the next few weeks. It's been really busy which makes a welcome change to my other placements which have been fairly quiet, and the crew I'm with are fab and have given me some really worthwhile feedback on how I work. Other than my first stabbing and epileptic fit last week, there have been lots of little things that I've not had the opportunity to do before that I've been able to get stuck into (particularly putting in a nasopharyngeal airway - that was a bit gross!) :o)
Went out to the pub and the last ever 'Freak' last night, it's been going for the best part of seven years and in an odd way I'll miss it as it reminds me of when I was 17 and it used to be the social highlight of our week. Kate mentioned (while we were having a shindig in the toilets, of course) that there are people you only ever see out at Freak and nowhere else, and that now we'll probably never see again... time has a nasty habit of rushing on without us methinks! I had a good night all in all as I saw so many faces that I haven't seen in a loooong time, and thank goodness I don't have work today as I'm shattered. Tah-rah! hxx

This was my first job last night, on my first day of placement in East London. Our second job was a double stabbing, although thankfully not fatal. What a good start to the next six weeks on the road!
Edit: The story has just appeared on the BBC London News. I choked on my tea!

I've finally broken up from university, so now I get three weeks of lazing about... no wait, I have an exercise physiology lab report and a 2500 word assignment on evidence based practice to write, plus revision for OSCE practical exams which are in January.
Ho ho bloody ho!
On a lighter note, this picture was taken just before me and my housemates went out to the Christmas Ball at uni. And yes, that is me IN A DRESS. It may never happen again, so take note!
Right, I'm off to the pub. Tah-rah for now! hxx

Training to be a Paramedic is HARD WORK.
I'm now an Emergency Medical Technician (or EMT2) which means I can work for real money in my spare time, although I still have to be supervised. I'm doing my ECG and Major Incident courses this week before I get to go off on placement again, and now that I've moved up to uni I don't have to get up at half six every day just to get in on time. It's fabulous! I also get to live with four marvellous but very crazy ladies.
Right, I'm off to try and figure what the ECG readout to an inferior myocardial infaction looks like. Tah-rah! hxx

.jpg) This is just a quickie, but I HAVE NEWS DAMMIT!
I got to fly in the HEMS air ambulance today, which was ridiculously exciting and I was very unprofessional throughout the whole journey by gazing in open mouthed wonder at everything going on far below in the streets of London.
Other stuff happened on my shift, but maybe I'll tell you all some other time :o)

Okay, okay! Enough harassing me already, people!
Today is my last day of freedom before I start the Summer semester of university, which involves going in every day in my tasteful green uniform until September. I'll try and update this thing, but the more people moan at me the less I'm likely to do it :o)

Well hello there! I finished and passed my latest Technician Module last week, and FINALLY got to go out in an ambulance. About bloody time! The first day was full of cut fingers and minor things that probably didn't warrant an ambulance, and the second day was full of situations that definitely did warrant an ambulance, including a guy who'd gone into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at hospital. Scary stuff, but I coped with it better than I thought I would especially as I've never seen a dead person before. At least I know that this is definitely the job I want to go into, and hopefully I can make a difference in my own small way.
On lighter news, I've bullied Martay into helping me build my new website. Even better, he's offered to host it for me so that I don't get stoopid banners :o) ah, the milk of human kindness! So this site will be subject to some overhaulage and may be down for a while, but I'm sure the dedicated among you will see fit to wander over here every so often to see what's cookin'! °h°

Just a flying visit - I've spent the last two weeks doing my Technician Modules at uni, and every day has been from half eight until half four. Add onto that the hour for travel each way, and it doesn't leave much time for updating my blog!
Only three more days of it then I'm hopefully going out on placement on the ambulances... I can't wait! °h°
